Courts have ruled that these groups do not have to divulge their donors in order to protect the donors’ rights to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly.

Martinez-Fischer vacated his House seat in 2016 to run unsuccessfully for the Texas Senate. When he decided to try to run for his former House seat again, Arevalo did not step aside without a battle. Ultimately, Martinez-Fischer won by a razor thin margin of 123 votes.
Interestingly, in Texas, HEB stores receive an estimated $2.89 billion of federal monies through food stamp reimbursements. Mr. Butt gives to both Republicans and Democrats, but notably, does not donate to those Republican legislators who have been the most vocal calling for food stamp reform.
