The totals don’t include any political donations these men and women have given to candidates in federal races, such as the O’Rourke vs. Cruz battle. Moreover, these numbers don’t reflect any donations given to 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) organizations. Courts have ruled that these groups do not have to divulge their donors in order to protect the donors’ rights to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly.

Although the seat has been held by Republicans since the early 1980’s, the demographics of this North Texas district have been shifting in favor of Democrats. Hillary Clinton won the district over Donald Trump by 4.7 percentage points, and Democrats are hopeful that Beto-mania will trickle down to help them flip this district to the blue column.
The seat has long been held by Republicans, but Clinton won the district by 8.9 percentage points over Trump in 2016. Those results, along with increased Democrat energy for the midterms, have given Democrats hope that Turner can flip the seat from red to blue.
