Texas House District 108, which includes a portion of Dallas, Highland Park, and University Park, is one of the most competitive races in Texas this year. Republican State Rep. Morgan Meyer is seeking a fourth term in office and has been challenged to a rematch by his 2018 rival, Democrat Joanna Cattanach. Meyer held onto the seat in 2018 after a recount by only 220 votes. This razor-thin 0.56 percent margin of victory makes this race a top target of Democrats seeking to flip the Texas House to blue this November.

As the 2020 elections begin to heat up in Texas, much of the focus will certainly be on the money flowing into the candidates’ war chests. If early numbers for this election cycle are any indicator, small dollar donors will have a big impact on the upcoming elections.
And these numbers may tell only part of the story. The totals don’t include any political donations these men and women have given to candidates in federal races, such as the O’Rourke vs. Cruz battle. Moreover, these numbers don’t reflect any donations given to 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) organizations. Courts have ruled that these groups do not have to divulge their donors in order to protect the donors’ rights to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly.
